Biathlon World Cup Antholz/Anterselva 2017 with new programme

In the coming year the Biathlon World Cup will again come to Anterselva in the third week in January.

Date: 19.01.2017
End: 22.01.2017

The races will take place from 19 to 22 January 2017 in the “Südtirol Arena”. New additions to the programme are the individual competition and the mass start.

While the programme is yet to be officially confirmed by the Board of the global association IBU, no changes are expected. After the last four editions of the World Cup always started with the spring and pursuit races, the next one will begin with an individual competition followed by a mass start. There have been no individual events in Anterselva since 2010. Six years ago the German women Magdalena Neuner, Kathi Wilhelm and Andrea Henkel celebrated a triple win (Michela Ponza from Val Gardena came 6th) while the winner among the men was Ukrainian Serguei Sednev. The last mass start in Anterselva took place in 2012. Four years ago the Belarusian Darya Domracheva and the German Andreas Birnbacher won the event.

The World Cup 2017 starts on Thursday, 19 January, with the 15 km individual event for the women. The men’s 20 km event takes place the following day. On Saturday, 21 January, the women compete in the mass start and the men in the relay, while on Sunday the men battle it out in the mass start and the women in the relay.

The Anterselva organising committee is also excited about the annual IBU Congress that takes place at the beginning of September in Chisinau in Moldova. This is where the locations of the World Championships 2020 and 2021 will be announced. Anterselva has already applied for 2020 but could also consider applying for 2021.
