19.06.2020 - The Biathlon World Championship Antholz supports South Tyrolean cancer aid
The Biathlon World Championships in Antholz in February with over 160,000 spectators, perfect organization and exciting competitions will not be forgotten by the South Tyrolean Cancer Aid either.
Numerous volunteers of the Cancer Aid took over the supervision of an information stand during the title fights and controlled the accreditations as well as the access roads for the handicapped.
In return, they received a donation of 5,000 euros and 5,000 buttons with the logo of the World Championships and that of Cancer Aid from the Organizing Committee of the Biathlon World Championships. The cheque for 5,000 euros was handed over today by the head of the OC, Lorenz Leitgeb, and the General Secretary of Antholz, Erika Pallhuber, to the President of the South Tyrolean Cancer Aid, Ida Schacher. A further 9,706 Euros were collected from the sale of the buttons during the World Championships. "A great experience and with a total of almost 15,000 Euros donations a really great result", said Schacher happily. Also present were Martha Feichter, chairwoman of the district of Unterpustertal, Hubert Oberhammer, member of the board of the district of Oberpustertal and the volunteer Hans Jud.
With this initiative, the Organising Committee of the Biathlon World Championships also wanted to commemorate their former Vice-President and the former Mayor of Antholz, Herbert Berger. In 2012, at the age of only 48 years, he succumbed to a severe cancer. Berger had been involved in the biathlon sport in Antholz for years.
