It has neither been total score leader Marte Olsbu Roeiseland, nor individual score leader Dorothea Wierer and neither Tiril Eckhoff, Hanna Öberg or Franziska Preuss – the winner of Antholz’ opening race is Lisa Theresa Hauser. The 27-year-old from Reith bei Kitzbühel has surprised her competition with an outstanding performance missing only one target and being the fastest on the 15km course and taking the victory in 42:29.3 minutes. It is Lisa Theresa Hauser’s first ever world cup victory. The Tyrolean has already scored three third ranks in Oberhof but not many people would have believed her capable of winning the individual competition of Antholz.

The only athlete flawless at the range was Yulija Dzihma. The 30-year-old Ukrainian confirmed her rising form with a perfect shooting and fast skiing. However, she had to give in on the last lap. In the end she came in second trailing Hauser 43.7 seconds. Anais Bescond-Bouchet completed the podium in third place. With one miss in the final shooting bout the French athlete gave away her chances of winning and she finished third trailing 1:04.0 minutes behind.

Dorothea Wierer in a strong fourth place

The first Antholz competition also saw the Italian top athletes in a main role. Dorothea Wierer, ranked third in the world cup total score, has missed the podium by only a fraction. The local hero from Rasen who has taken the world champion title a year ago here in Antholz finished in fourth place after missing two targets. In the end Wierer missed the podium by eleven seconds. It has already been her tenth top-ten rank this season. Second-best “Azzrurra” was Lisa Vittozzi in 13th place. Whereas it has been such a good race for the other three Italians: Nicole Gontier (56th), Federica Sanfilippo from Ridnaun (60th) and Michela Carrara (69th).

On Friday the world cup program will continue with the 20km individual competition men in the South Tyrol Arena. Competition start is 13.15h.
