21.01.2024 - Julia Simon jubilant after the final race in Antholz
The ultimate victory at the 2024 Biathlon World Cup in Antholz belongs to Julia Simon.
After a strong performance in the 12.5-km Mass Start Race, the French athlete finished ahead of her compatriot Lou Jeanmonnot and Switzerland's Lena Häcki-Gross. Italy's Lisa Vittozzi completed the race in 6th place.
At the end of this year's World Cup stage, the biathletes in the Südtirol Arena once again delivered impressive performances, with Julia Simon leading the way. The 27-year-old from Les Saisies performed impressively right from the start at the biathlon course in South Tyrol today, making just one shooting error and crossing the finish line in 1st place. This is the 19th World Cup triumph in the career of the Frenchwoman.
Simon's closest competitor today was her teammate Lou Jeanmonnot. The French biathlete even led the race until the third shooting stage, but was then unable to keep up with Simon. Behind her, the strong Lena Häcki-Groß took the bronze medal. Jeanmonnot was 8.9 seconds back at the finish, followed by strong Swiss competitor Lena Häcki-Gross, who took the bronze medal. It was her 2nd podium finish in three days, after celebrating her first ever World Cup victory in the singles on Friday. Häcki-Groß finished 20.7 seconds behind Simon with one miss. Meanwhile, Vanessa Voigt from Germany came 4th and Norway's Karoline Knotten 5th. The only "Azzurra" in the race, Lisa Vittozzi, finished in 6th place, 49.3 seconds back. For a long time, Vittozzi was on course for a podium finish, but in the last standing stage she missed a target.
The Antholz 2024 World Cup stage, which was once again a great success, wrapped up with the Mass Start Race. The biathlon contingent will now take a break for almost two weeks, with the World Championships in Nove Mesto, Czech Republic, kicking off on 7 February.
