Norway's biathletes won the men's 4x7.5 km relay at the World Cup in Antholz on Sunday afternoon.

23.01.2022 - Norwegian men dominate the relay race
Sturla Holm Laegreid, Tarjei and Johannes Thingnes Bø as well as Vetle Sjaastad Christiansen clearly won ahead of Russia and Germany, while the Italian team with Lukas Hofer and Dominik Windisch finished eighth.

On the last competition day in Antholz the TV audience watched an exciting, high class team event dominated by the men from Norway. The Scandinavians set the tone right from the start: First skier Laegreid, the Bø brothers as well as last skier Christiansen delivered a fantastic performance. In total, the Norwegians only scored four misses. For Norway it is the third relay gold in the fourth race after Östersund and Hochfilzen. Only in Ruhpolding (7th) did they not finish at the top. In yesterday’s women’s relay Norway also finished first.

Only very few nations can match the Norwegian team. The gap to Russia at the finish was correspondingly big, with the Russians coming in 1:57.2 minutes later. The race for second place was not decided until the last lap: Eric Perrot from France went into the final lap with a big lead over Germany (+11 seconds) and Russia (+25 seconds), but could not sustain the pace at the end. First Lucas Fratzscher from Germany overtook him, then also Eduard Latypov. The Russian pulled ahead once again, also leaving Fratzscher standing and securing second place for his nation. Third place went to Germany. France had to contend with fourth place.

Italy in 8th place

The biathletes of the host nation Italy delivered a solid performance. Thomas Bormolini changed over in 11th place, local athlete Dominik Windisch delivered a decent performance and handed over in eighth, but Tommaso Giacomel then slipped back to 10th place. Final skier Lukas Hofer made up ground and was strong on the skis as well as in the shooting. In the end, the team finished eighth, three minutes behind.

The Biathlon World Cup 2022 in Anterselva concludes at 15:15 with the women’s mass start. From the South Tyrolean point of view, all eyes are on Dorothea Wierer from Rasun di Sotto.
