24.01.2019 - The "Trofeo Senza Fine" comes to Antholz

On Friday, January 25, 2019, the “Trofeo Senza Fine”, the spectacular trophy awarded to the winner of the Giro d’Italia, will come to the South Tyrol Arena.

The trophy made from 18-carat-gold-plated copper and weighing almost 10 kg is spiral-shaped, representing the roads the cyclists are riding on during this long stage race along with the suffering and the difficulties of the ride but also a hurricane of unlimited emotions. This cup has been awarded to the winner of the 2000 Giro for the first time; yet all previous champions are also engraved on it. The trophy is extended each year to provide room for another name. Who will win the “Endless Trophy” in this year’s 102nd edition of the race? In order to determine that, in about 4 months, the pink caravan will move on a splendid route in 21 stages covering a total of 3518.5 km on Italy’s finest roads from May 11 to June 2, 2019.

In anticipation of the return of the Giro d’Italia to South Tyrol, with the arrival of the 17th stage at the South Tyrol Arena (May 29) and the start of the 18th stage at the center of Mitterolang (May 30), the Biathlon World Cup Antholz has dedicated Friday, February 25, 2019 to the arrival of the pink caravan in the Antholzertal and Olang with the presentation of the “Trofeo Senza Fine” in the presence of two cycling champions – road race and mountain bike.

Gilberto Simoni, twice winner of the Giro d’Italia (2001 and 2003) has first-hand experience what it means to touch the “Trofeo Senza Fine” and to raise towards heaven, will be accompanied by the Belgian mountain bike specialist and cross country world champion of 2008 and 2009, Roel Paulissen.

The biathlon world cup will stand shoulder to shoulder with cycling in spectacular way at the end of the week…all in pink.
