Short Individual Men

Come and witness the Wolrd Cup Start

This year it's the men who will kick off the biathlon festival on 18.01.2024. On the programme is a new format that will be tested for the first time in the World Cup: the Short Individual.
Instead of the 20km, a shorter distance of 15km will be run by the men and a penalty time of 45 seconds instead of one minute will be added for each mistake.
Will it be an outsider or rather a favourite athlete who masters the new discipline?

The short individual competition is a shortened form of the classic individual competition. This means a distance of 15 km for men and 12.5 km for women, and for each missed shot only 45 seconds are added to the ski time instead of one whole minute. But still, it's not enough to be a fast skier, because too many mistakes and penalty times at the shooting range can even not be made up by world-class cross-country skiers. Will us expect a surprise?

ALL ABOUT THE INDIVIDUAL
This competition is a relatively new format, introduced for the first time in the 2018-19 season. The rules are the same as for the classic individual race, but the distances and time penalties are shortened. Women ski 12.5km instead of 15km, men 15km instead of 20km. Each shooting error is punished with a penalty time, which is added to the athlete's final time. In contrast to the conventional individual race, however, there is no whole penalty minute, but a shortened penalty of 45 seconds for each missed target. The athletes shoot 4 times: first prone, then standing, then prone again and finally standing once more.
The start interval is generally 30 seconds, but particular conditions allow the jury to opt for shorter or longer intervals.
The winner is determined by the best time including the added penalty time.
