Thursday – Men’s Individual

Come and witness the Wolrd Cup Start

The opening belongs to the men: on Thursday, the 2027 World Cup weekend in Antholz kicks off with the individual race – a true classic full of precision and suspense.
In the longest discipline of biathlon, athletes must cover 20 kilometers, testing endurance and concentration to the limit. Every shooting mistake is punished with a full penalty minute.

Who will make an early statement, and who will fall victim to the unforgiving precision of this traditional discipline?

The individual competition requires very good precisiob at the shooting range in order to avoid a whole minute as a time penalty. Combined with the longest distance of 20 km that every biathlete has to run, the individual competition is the most unpredictable discipline. It's not enough to be a fast skier, because too many mistakes and penalty minutes at the shooting range can even not be made up by world-class cross-country skiers. Will us expect a surprise?

ALL ABOUT THE INDIVIDUAL
This competition is the longest in the biathlon program, as well as the oldest, with women skiing 15 km and men 20 km. The start interval is generally 30 seconds, but particular conditions allow the jury to opt for shorter or longer intervals. Contrary to all the other formats, there is no penalty loop: each missed target in the individual adds a minute to the final time. Another peculiarity of this format is that the athletes shoot first in prone position, then standing, then prone again and finally standing for a second time in the four shooting stages. The winner is determined by the best time including the added penalty minutes.
